A home game at last, the first since Bynea in the Bowl on the 12th December, the pitch still recovering with some patches still a bit boggy but in surprisingly good order given the continuing unsettled weather; a chance to avenge the away result on the 21st November when St Davids were worthy winners 22 points to 10.
A blustery changeable wind made conditions difficult however and both sides battled to come to terms with the elements. The only opportunity to register points fell to Liam Price with a missed penalty attempt after fifteen minutes but his disappointment was short lived when within a minute, following good work by the home side's backs, he touched down under the posts for the first try, followed by the successful conversion.
With confidence growing, St Clears backs started to dominate and followimg excellent interplay through the line, winger Jonathan Gosling rounded off moves to convert two further, virtually identical, tries in the corner within ten minutes to establish a seventeen point lead.
To their credit the visitors did not stop trying and were rewarded for their efforts with a good try for their number 8 George Raymond, shortly before the break, to close the gap at half time to 17 points to 5.
A lively reminder at half time from the 'back room staff' clearly revived the home side's ambitions and almost immediately Liam Price added the fourth, bonus point try and his second, to secure what appeared to be a winning advantage. The visitors however did not see it that way and raised their game to put the home side on the back foot, despite the disadvantage of the strong wind against and it was no more than they deserved when number 8 George Raymond touched down under the posts to record his second try. The successful conversion reduced the arrears to twelve points and with the visitors continuing to press the result was by no means certain.
Gradually however the tide turned and the home side's backs began to find gaps in the tiring visitors defence and in quick succession first Jamie Harris, then Mathew Lewis and finally Liam Price, with his third try and his third conversion, secured a hard fought victory with a final score of 41 points to 12.
