Away to Pontarddulais 11/11/2017

Another mountain to climb with a journey to a team enjoying an excellent season lying second in Division 2 West with a number of regulars missing and concern as to the scale of the defeat the main worry, was not the best prospect facing the new boys to the division, but they clearly had not read the script and were not at all overwhelmed by the occasion and gave as good as they got!

Neither side managed to gain any real ascendancy, both enjoying brief spells of pressure in what was in truth a scrappy affair, the only scoring opportunity, a difficult penalty for the home side which hit the upright after twenty minutes and five minutes later a defensive slip leaving the door open for a try for Pont to go five points clear.

Just before half time influential centre Mike Georgiau suffered a nasty hip injury which required ambulance attendance and this arguably turned the game with Saints fighting a rear guard action from the start of the second half to keep in contention. A harsh yellow card five minutes after the break for second row Dafydd Walters did not help their cause and the resulting successful penalty kick from the incident allowed some breathing space for the home side and with the one man advantage the pack started to turn the screw!

A push over try resulted from this forward supremacy and 13 points to nil was a comfortable lead with the home side pushing for the bonus point scoring tries in the remaining 15 minutes.

A successful penalty from the boot of James Davies however turned the tide and the final phase of play saw Saints with their tails up pushing hard for their bonus point and possibly even the result. Pontarddulais finished the game relieved to hear the final whistle and somewhat surprised by the resolute performance from their visitors!
