Seniors away to Pembroke Dock Quins 27/02/2016

After all the disruption caused by the bad weather it was a refreshing change to see the sun and although still a very heavy pitch with a blustery cold north wind, a considerable improvement on the conditions of the last three months.

Quins started well and had the visitors on the back foot in the early exchanges, although the visitors withstood the early pressure well and the only reward for the home side was a penalty after twenty five minutes from outside half Lewis Davies.

Almost immediately after the restart however, an excellent move from the visitors produced a try in the corner for full back Liam Price. From the touchline he converted his own try with a superb kick, although both the crossbar and the upright had to be used on the way!

A penalty in front of the posts, which produced a yellow card for Quins flanker Alex Pearce, allowed Liam to extend the lead and at half time the score stood at ten points to three.

With the advantage of the wind and slope, Saints enjoyed the opening stages of the second half and could have extended the lead on a number of occasions before the twentieth minute when Liam Price registered his second try following good work by the backs and outside centre Tom Windsor in particular.

A yellow card shortly after this for a high tackle allowed the home side, with the resulting numerical supremacy, to enjoy more possession and a spell of pressure in the visitors twenty two produced an excellent try for number ten Lewis Davies from which he added the 'extras' to leave the score, with ten minutes remaining, at fifteen points to ten in favour of the visitors.

That was as close as it got however and Saints survived the scare, to finish the stronger and only desperate defence in the dying stages of the game, from Quins prevented the visitors forwards from registering more points which would not have been an unfair outcome for a good overall performance.
