Home to Mumbles 30/03/2019

An opening twenty minutes with nothing to choose between two sides propping up the division with only Tumble beneath them, both looking to get something from the few remaining games left in the season, with only a missed penalty apiece to show for their efforts after twenty minutes, until Saints right wing Andrew Kirkbride (pictured) produced a lightning burst for a flying touchdown, allowing for an easy conversion for full back Adam Phillips.

A successful penalty ten minutes later from captain Phillips and the home side seemingly in control ten points to the good, when woeful defensive lapses allowed two tries from nowhere within five minutes for Mumbles shortly before half time to ruin all the good work and hand the lead to the visitors at the break 12 points to 10.

Some regrouping at the break produced a spirited response from Saints and a penalty try resulting from intense forward pressure restored the lead ten minutes into the half but this all too brief resurgence evaporated with further lapses of concentration, when appearing to be gaining the upper hand, allowing the visitors to score three tries in the space of five minutes, scoring at will with very little resistance being mustered.

A short respite of twenty minutes without any further scores but then a simple quick tap penalty caught Saints dreaming again and yet another easy run in for the sixth try to further  increase the pain!

Not even a last minute try for the home side’s centre Michael Georgiau did anything to ease this abject performance which may very well have sealed Saints fate in Division 2 West and yet another disappointing unrewarding afternoon, despite some good spells which deserved more.
