Home to Laugharne Match report

A true local derby and the first visit to Parc Griffith Jones by the 'cocklemen' was the eagerly awaited prospect in front of a very good crowd for the return SWALEC Division three West (B) fixture in perfect conditions.

The opening exchanges were very even, although Laugharne enjoyed early territorial advantage and after fifteen minutes opened the scoring with a well worked try by flanker Mikey Williams duly converted  by centre Tom Jameson, for a seven point advantage.

Saint Clears bounced back and exerted their own pressure and were unlucky not to score before, somewhat against the run of play, the visitors back division showed their strength again with a touchdown in the corner by Tomos Rees, not converted on this occasion.

Just before the break Liam Price, Saints influential centre, was yellow carded and this was to prove the pivotal moment of the game when five minutes into the second half,  with the one man advantage, Laugharne recorded two tries in quick succession through Jameson and Williams to virtually kill the game with a lead of twenty two points.

The home side did not cave in however and rallied to put the visitors on the back foot for long periods before eventually producing an excellent try in the corner for winger Tom Windsor.

Despite enormous pressure from the home forwards, when stoic defence by the visitors thwarted every effort to record a further score, shortly before the end, Aled Rees touched down for the fifth try by Laugharne. A successful conversion followed, producing a final score of 29 points to 5.

Although a significant improvement over the first encounter in Laugharne earlier in the season, both in performance and final score, Saint Clears could feel slightly aggrieved that their performance did not result in an even closer final outcome but overall Laugharne gained the local 'bragging rights' against a gutsy hard working performance from Saints.
