Away to Tregaron 01/10/2016

A trek into deepest Ceredigin for a visit to new boys Tregaron was greeted with heavy showers and the threat of thunderstorms but the weather at the start and playing conditions were excellent. Early exchanges suggested a battle upfront against the bigger home pack and so it proved initially, although a missed penalty was their only real chance for early points. On a rare visit into Tregaron's half, a chance for the visiting backs to show their running skills was converted into a try under the posts for inside centre Jake Iles, with Geraint Jones adding the extras.

The pressure from the home pack did not let up however, but again only a missed penalty resulted and the visitors defence stood firm. Another excursion into the home half resulted in a try for scrum half Owain Davies but the conversion was missed.

Gradually with Tregaron's pack runnung out of steam St Clears lively backs started to dominate proceedings, although the next score actually came from loose head prop Gareth Jones, showing a lively turn of speed to leave Tregaron's defence in tatters. Owain Davies added his second and Saints fourth with a conversion and then a penalty score from Geraint Jones producing a half time score of 27 points to 3.

At this stage the weather worsened and a torrential sustained down pour made for difficult playing conditions with a number of mistakes being made. The visiting side seemed to adapt better and in quick succession tries for Mathew Lewis, Dafydd Page and a second for Jake Iles put some distance between the sides. One consolation try for Tregaron did provide some late momentum but another try in the dying minutes for second row Courtney Bowman finally settled matters and the final soreline of 51 points to 10 was a highly satisfactory result for Saints long journey.
