St Clears 22 - Haverfordwest 5

St Clears completed a deserved double over Haverfordwest to stay top of the table as The Blues’ much-vaunted pack was unable its usual influence against a well-organised and disciplined display from the Saints’ eight as they established a 12-5 interval lead despite having to defend the elements, and were always on top with the wind at their backs after that but just missing out on a bonus point.

Prop Gareth Jones opened the Saints’ scoring with a short-range try and talented centre Jac Howells maintained his good form with another score, with Dan Griffiths landing one conversion.

At the other end player/coach Matthew John and skipper Matty Phillips tried to make an impression but the home defence was outstanding and all they could muster was a try by Phillips which Jake Morgan put just the wrong side of the upright.

In another tight tussle after the interval a Griffiths’ penalty nudged The Saints further ahead and he also converted a good try from Liam Rogers to help The Saints show what a very good all-round squad they currently have!
